Mino: Also known as the Dahomey Amazons, were an all-female regime of skillfully trained warriors of the Fon people of the Dahomey Kingdom. The warriors were powerful and fearless and notorious for decapitating their enemies during battle. They fought valiantly in the first Franco-Dahemian War in 1890. They are remembered for their ferocity, prowess in battle, and bravery.

Nzinga (Na-Zeen-Ga) : Queen Nzinga Mbande was a fearless leader of the Ndongo and Metamba Kingdoms, now Angola. During the 17th century, she fought for the freedom of her kingdoms against Portuguese colonization. With her clever military tactics and political aptitude, she was able to secure power and keep the Portuguese at bay.

Assata: “She who struggles”. Through our struggles we find our strength. Inspired by prominent activist, Assata Shakur, who was a member of the Black Panther Party and Black Liberation Army from 1971-1973. She fought for racial, social, and economic equality. She is still deemed a threat with requests for her extradition.  She is revolutionary in thought and action. We honor her strength and courage.
